Sea-Bird Scientific Forms New Science Team

Sea-Bird Scientific is pleased to announce the formation of a new senior Science Team led by Norge Larson. The Science Team will focus scientific resources from Sea-Bird Electronics, WET Labs and Satlantic on the critical needs of the oceanographic and water quality communities to drive innovation and sensor technology development across Sea-Bird Scientific.


Sea Technology Services Hydro-Acoustic Calibration Control Units for Hawaii based research ship Oscar Elton Settee and new San Diego based Reuben Lasker.

Sea Technology Services, via its U.S.A. representative Kim Dietrich, has been awarded an order from ECS Federal, Inc, for an enhanced model Sea Technology Services Hydro-Acoustic Calibration Control Unit, to be fitted aboard the newly built NOAA research ship, Reuben Lasker, recently launched by Marinette Marine Corporation.

Sea-trials of the Sea Technology Services designed, and recently installed, Scientific Data System (SDS), aboard the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) ship R.S. Algoa, were successfully completed during her recent cruise from Cape Town to Durban.


Sea Technology Services to provide engineering support for NOAA’s 2013 Antarctic Winter Cruise

Sea Technology Services is pleased to announce that NOAA’s U.S.A. Antarctic Ecosystem Research Group (AERG) have contracted Sea Technology Services to supply the oceanographic engineering support for their winter-cruise portion of their 2013-2014 Antarctic Field Program, around the South Shetland Islands, board the R.V. Palmer.


Testing of a trawl net mounted Sea-Bird Electronics SBE 19 plus V2 CTD system begins

Dr Larry Hutchings (Ma-RE, UCT), in conjunction with Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), the Danish Technical University (DTU Aqua) and Sea Technology Services, will commence sea trials of a custom designed, ruggedized protective casing, mounted on the headrope of a demersal trawl net.

CSIR#1 started its maiden voyage from Hout Bay, Cape Town, and is making steady progress towards the continental shelf-break 65NM due west of Cape Town.
