Southern Oceans Engineering R&D centre opens its doors and welcomes student engineering technicians

Sea Technology Services welcomes Engineering Technician Students Sinekhaya Bilana, Ashley Botha and Jean-Pierre (JP) Smit to the newly established CSIR initiative, the Southern Oceans Engineering R&D Centre (SOERDC).

Sea Technology Services has been contracted by CSIR to setup and establish the SOERDC facility at East Pier, V&A Waterfront, to:

  • grow marine and oceanographic engineering expertise in South Africa
  • provide servicing, refurbishment and repair of gliders
  • establish a glider port in Southern Africa
  • develop and integrate new oceanographic sensors and sensor platforms

 

Since SOERDC opened its doors in 2012, it has:
